Comment Epstein ouvrit au numéro 2 de JPMorgan des rencontres privées avec des chefs d'État

Quand Jes Staley fut promu numéro deux de JPMorgan en septembre 2009, Sultan Bin Sulayem dit à Epstein : « Did you see your friend Jes Staley just got promoted. » Epstein répondit : « it was not an accident. » En quelques mois, Epstein avait organisé un dîner privé Sultan-Staley, Staley était invité à rencontrer 14 ministres des Affaires étrangères, et Peter Mandelson lui proposait des mines au Congo.

Le 30 septembre 2009, Sultan Bin Sulayem écrivit à Epstein : "Did you see your friend Jes Staley just got promoted to #2 at JP Morgan" (EFTA02526370-0). Epstein répondit : "it was not an accident.." (vol00009-efta00740105-pdf-0).

Deux mois plus tard, Epstein coordonnait le voyage de Staley : "Jes is re arranging his schedule to make a trip to the middle east// saudi etc. call me" (vol00009-efta00742801-pdf-0). Le 9 décembre, il organisa un dîner privé entre les deux hommes : "sultan , jes is free thurs, from 5-10 p.m. where and when, only the two of you please" (vol00009-efta00743331-pdf-0).

La présentation déboucha sur une relation bancaire. Le 15 avril 2010, Sultan écrivit directement à Staley chez JPMorgan : "Dear Jes, DUKES HOTEL LIMITED — REFINANCING REQUIREMENTS — We have a requirement of refinancing the loan" (EFTA02426003-0). Le président de DP World demandait un prêt au numéro deux de JPMorgan, par un canal qu'Epstein avait construit.

En octobre 2010, Epstein envoya à Staley une invitation à une rencontre avec quatorze ministres des Affaires étrangères et chefs d'État. "jeffrey , please come. you may have private time with each . you security clearance is approved." La liste comprenait le Nigérian Henry Odein Ajumogobia, le Marocain Taieb Fassi-Fihri, le Qatari Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al-Thani, le Premier ministre libanais Saad Harari, le Pakistanais Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi et l'Émirati Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan (vol00009-efta00755193-pdf-0).

La même semaine, Peter Mandelson écrivit à Staley : "In Congo Brazzaville last week, I talked at length with President Sassou Ntuesso, including about the above new mine." Staley répondit : "I will find out. Sounds interesting" (EFTA02418828-3, EFTA02418828-4). Mandelson proposait des mines congolaises au numéro deux de JPMorgan via le réseau Epstein.
