Djibouti : comment Epstein joua sur les deux tableaux d'une lutte de pouvoir

Sultan présenta Epstein au président de Djibouti au Waldorf Astoria. Le même mois, Epstein fréquentait Abdourahman Boreh, le rival du président. Sultan prévint : « Plz don't mention to Boreh you met Djibouti president as they both hate each other. » Epstein entretint les deux relations pendant sept ans.

Début septembre 2011, Epstein fréquentait déjà Abdourahman Boreh à New York. Après un dîner avec Michael Wolff, Epstein envoya à Wolff le site djiboutiplan.com sur Boreh. Wolff répondit : "Well that was great fun. I loved that guy. And Victoria loved you" (EFTA01854877-0). Le lendemain, Epstein écrivit à Sultan : "our djibouti friend was a lot of fun, he canceled the girls he had coming, im not sure why?" (EFTA01853867-0). Cinq jours plus tard, Epstein demanda à Sultan l'email de Boreh. Sultan le fournit le jour même (EFTA01856749-0, EFTA01775683-0).

Le 24 septembre, Sultan proposa quelque chose de plus gros. "I am meeting Djibouti president tomorrow at 12:15 at his suit at Waldorf Astoria I told him I will bring a friend it will be interesting for you to meet him" (EFTA01775224-1). Epstein répondit : "great" (EFTA01855135-0).

Cinq jours plus tard, Sultan envoya l'avertissement : "Plz don't mention to Bomb you met Djibouti president as they both hate each other." Epstein : "i know , but thanks for the reminder" (EFTA01851941-0).

Sultan avait son propre passé avec Djibouti. Quand Epstein demanda "Do you still have the port there?", Sultan répondit : "No we don't have the port any more there was so much corruption that we with drew from the budding process" (EFTA01881965-0). DP World avait perdu la concession de Doraleh dans un litige qui allait occuper les tribunaux londoniens pendant une décennie.

L'associé d'Epstein David Stern devint l'avocat de Boreh. En octobre 2015, Stern rapporta : "helping Boreh win his case. Got this done, quite funky and happy it worked!" et partagea un article du Daily Mail dénonçant Lord Falconer représentant Djibouti (EFTA01793405-0). En mars 2016 : "Boreh won his case 100%." Epstein : "give him my congrats" (EFTA02469402-1). En octobre, Epstein dit à Sultan : "I had tea today with boreh fun" (EFTA02450169-0). En 2017, Stern demanda à Epstein de "check Rothschild for Boreh" (EFTA02655444-0).

Le fil se poursuivit jusqu'à l'arrestation d'Epstein. En décembre 2018, Stern écrivit : "Saw Boreh and discussed waterholes" (EFTA02611122-0). Trois mois plus tôt, Jide Zeitlin avait envoyé à Epstein l'article du Financial Times sur la nationalisation par Djibouti des parts du port de la mer Rouge, ajoutant : "I hope your pal's sojourn in Tel Aviv this summer with his daughter was more effective than his efforts on the African continent. The arrogance with which he dealt with me is remarkable given his track record, or lack thereof" (EFTA02624197-0).
