Bill Gates appears in 34 emails in Epstein's Africa archive. In September 2012, Gates wrote to his science adviser Boris Nikolic: "Go ahead and forward this to Jeffrey. He and I talked quite a bit last night including explaining that Melinda had just been in Africa with Kofi." Nikolic forwarded Melinda French's Tanzania agriculture trip photos to Epstein. In April 2011, Epstein told a correspondent that Gates "has asked me" to come up with new ideas for the financial system. The Gates Foundation funded IPI's polio eradication intelligence program, whose reports Terje Rod-Larsen routed through Epstein. Nina Keita used Epstein's name to contact the Gates Foundation's Ivory Coast representative in March 2012.
