Boris Nikolic : comment Epstein construisit un canal vers la Fondation Gates

En novembre 2009, un correspondant écrivit à Epstein. "Boris is currently negotiating a job w bill. He needs help. He wants to be rich and has no idea how to craft the right deal. Help him, svengalil" (EFTA01820191-0). Boris Nikolic était sur le point de devenir conseiller scientifique de Bill Gates. On demandait à Epstein d'aider à structurer les conditions. Quatre jours plus tard, Nikolic écrivit directement à Epstein. "My trip is confirmed. I am traveling with Bill to South Africa a day after Thanksgiving. He will continue to Kenya but I can't join." Il conclut : "Hope to finally meet you!!! So much looking forward. Strange we never met but I feel like i am about to meet an old friend!" (EFTA02435461-0). Ils ne s'étaient encore jamais rencontrés en personne. Nikolic voyageait déjà avec Gates à travers l'Afrique.

Deux ans plus tard, Nikolic était en poste. En novembre 2011, Epstein lui envoya un lien sur le yuan avec pour objet "this is what will happen if we do nothing" (EFTA01835773-1). Un correspondant répondit le même jour avec du renseignement depuis Harare : "Just off phone now with folks in Zimbabwe. China foreign minister there now. One thing they are discussing is switching to yuan. Currently national currency is dollar but it is struggling against neighboring rand and others where yuan is not. Also a 7b diamond deal signed today w China" (EFTA01835773-0). Nikolic était dans le fil.

En mai 2012, l'emprise d'Epstein sur le bureau privé de Gates s'était approfondie. Un correspondant anonyme écrivit au sujet d'un besoin d'aide chez BGC3, le véhicule d'investissement privé de Gates. "Boris (who doesn't know anything of personal efforts) would like try to help with a plan B in terms of helping out maybe at BGC3." La même personne ajouta : "Not sure how (or if) I should just be frank with Bill and Boris and ask them to cover me for the next 12 months somehow since I have to stay in SEattle till then" (EFTA01882296-4). L'email mentionnait rester "calm and supportive till November or so as Steve gets through the hardest time in his life w MSFT." Quelqu'un dans l'orbite Gates-Microsoft utilisait Epstein comme intermédiaire privé.

Cinq mois plus tard, Gates rendit le canal explicite. Le 30 septembre 2012, il écrivit à Nikolic au sujet du voyage agricole de Melinda French en Tanzanie avec Kofi Annan. "Go ahead and forward this to Jeffrey. He and I talked quite a bit last night including explaining that Melinda had just been in Africa with Kofi. She really liked Kofi a lot." Nikolic transféra le message à Epstein avec deux mots : "For you" (EFTA01803600-0). Gates avait parlé avec Epstein la veille au soir et avait personnellement demandé à son conseiller scientifique de partager l'information.

En mars 2013, Nikolic envoya à Epstein une demande formelle. L'objet : "Polio - update - specific asks." Il listait quatre questions : "Any advice re dealing with the violence in Nigeria and Pakistan? Who is perceived as influential in these problematic areas?" Et : "How/who can assess whether the Taliban or Boko Harem can be ok with polio eradication and if so how we avoid conflict" (EFTA01900866-0). Le conseiller scientifique de Gates demandait à un délinquant sexuel condamné du renseignement sur des groupes armés. Epstein répondit une semaine plus tard. "I have asked my best sources for their consideration and advice. (their joint conclusions are very often better than the list of the various, 26, three-letter agencies)." Ses sources estimaient que la menace immédiate au Nigeria n'était pas Boko Haram mais que "the next wave of real baku involvement... is that the workers will be kidnapped and held for ransom. all these stories about fear of sterilization, men giving girls the vaccine is the media spin" (EFTA01761706-0). Le lendemain, il écrivit : "I have instructed terje to put together the best team he can to begin in pakistan, afganistan. nigeria is not his thing, and a deffierent group" (EFTA01898485-0). Terje était Terje Rød-Larsen, président de l'International Peace Institute. Epstein donnait des ordres opérationnels.

Le même mois, Epstein envoya à Nikolic un message d'une ligne : "if bill wants a favor in paki or nigeria, he will have to learn to respond to invitations by a yes or no, not ignoring" (EFTA01786552-0). Nikolic répondit : "I do not understand what you are referring to?" (EFTA01789442-0). Epstein faisait levier de son travail de renseignement pour la Fondation Gates afin de pousser Gates à quelque chose. Ce qu'il voulait en retour n'est pas précisé dans les archives.

En 2013, Nikolic aida aussi à négocier une subvention de plusieurs millions de dollars entre la Fondation Gates et l'International Peace Institute pour du renseignement sur l'éradication de la polio au Nigeria, en Somalie, au Pakistan et en Afghanistan. Amy Carter, directrice adjointe des Family Interest Grants de la Fondation, référença des discussions antérieures "with Mr. Gates and Dr. Nikolic" dans sa correspondance avec l'IPI (EFTA01958109-0). Quand Carter envoya à Nikolic une mise à jour sur le calendrier de la subvention, il la transféra avec un avertissement : "Please do not forward. Let's discuss asap. IPI should ask fast!" (EFTA01964359-10). Andrea Pfanzelter de l'IPI envoya l'ordre du jour de la réunion de Seattle à Nikolic et à "Jeff Epstein." Nikolic répondit : "I will try to attend it. If not possible I will talk to the people that are attending it. It is all moving into right direction" (EFTA01958109-0). La réunion produisit 1 million de dollars en soutien général accéléré et une subvention projet de 4 millions sur trois ans (EFTA01959363-1). Epstein n'avait aucun rôle dans la subvention. Il vit la correspondance interne quand même.

Le canal fonctionnait dans les deux sens. En août 2013, Ehud Barak présenta Parasight Ltd, une startup israélienne de diagnostic du paludisme, à Nikolic. Epstein était en copie. Nikolic transféra le pitch à Gene Walther de la Fondation Gates : "I am sending this to Gene Walther who is leading diagnostics (including malaria diagnostics) at Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation" (EFTA01961245-0). Quatre mois plus tard, Nikolic fit son rapport à Barak : "I just had chance to review, there might be a small complexity as we have been funding a company to develop similar system! Nevertheless I will do my best to help any way I can" (EFTA01961245-5).

Le 5 novembre 2013, Epstein transféra un article directement à Nikolic. L'objet : "Bill Gates should not visit Nigeria." La chercheuse de l'IPI Nasra Hassan l'avait envoyé à Terje Rød-Larsen quelques heures plus tôt. L'article rapportait que Boko Haram avait abattu dix agents de vaccination contre la polio à Kano et trois dans le Borno. Une coalition du nord du Nigeria avait demandé au président Jonathan d'annuler la visite de Gates parce que "it may heighten tension and create fear amongst the administrators of the vaccines on children" (vol00009-efta00974820-pdf-0, EFTA01755599-0). Epstein relayait du renseignement de terrain sur les menaces pesant sur les propres agents de la Fondation Gates, directement au conseiller scientifique de Gates.

En mai 2014, la fondation d'Epstein publia un communiqué affirmant avoir aidé à lancer l'intelligence artificielle en Éthiopie. Quand quelqu'un le transféra à Epstein, sa seule réponse fut : "when are you next in ny? how was boris?" La réponse : "Boris is in a rough spot. I am worried for him" (EFTA01922246-0, EFTA01924912-1). L'affirmation sur l'Éthiopie était fausse. L'histoire complète est racontée séparément.

Le canal de renseignement était aussi un canal financier. En octobre 2012, Epstein écrivit à Nikolic au sujet d'une structure d'investissement impliquant Gates : "ifsomething happens to bill , insurance, contract loan forgiven over time. . 2. you recognize his concern that the limitation should be on your time, as money is more flexible, 3. it has to be a mechanism to genrarte fincancil secuirty, 5 deals of 20 million each" (EFTA01892907-0). Gates fournirait le capital. Nikolic supporterait l'engagement en temps.

Huit mois plus tard, Epstein proposa directement à Nikolic : "we buy the ny townhouse , it becomes the gates foundation office for science and tech , you are its president. It can invest at least 100 million in tech deals , and the profits after your overide go back to the foundaiton" (EFTA01967855-0).

Le 1er octobre 2013, Epstein écrivit à Nikolic : "don't forget to remind bill that he has to do something" (EFTA01952695-0). Nikolic répondit : "It might be difficult today and tmr as Nathan, Lowell and few others are around. Nevertheless, I will do so during my next 1:1 in 2 week or next Monday in DC" (EFTA01755620-0). Trente jours plus tard, Epstein écrivit à Gates, Nikolic et Larry Cohen directement : "It's easy. Bill uses a 10-15 million dollar advance to buy his interest in the fund. Boris gets all the downside and fifty percent of the upside. Both are in the same position re the last deal , and bill has a free ride on 50 percent of the interests ups" (EFTA01756287-0). Le même canal qui acheminait du renseignement sur la polio depuis le Nigeria structurait des accords où Gates investissait des millions via Nikolic avec Epstein comme architecte.

En août 2019, deux jours avant sa mort, Epstein signa un testament désignant Boris Nikolic comme exécuteur testamentaire suppléant. Nikolic déclara à Bloomberg qu'il était "shocked" par cette désignation et qu'il ignorait avoir été nommé.
